Abstract

This project examines horizontalism as a framework for community-based research and education that resists hierarchy by centering collaboration and knowledge co-creation. Through the Penn Educational Alliance for Change and Equity (PEACE) and fieldwork in Mexico with the University of Guadalajara, bilingual conferences and workshops demonstrated how horizontalism fosters reciprocal learning and destigmatization. By valuing all participants as equal contributors, horizontalism broadens transnational, multigenerational partnerships and advances educational justice across classrooms and communities.
