Abstract
This research project aims to explore how integrated psychosocial workshops and family literacy programs can address rural poverty and transform gender dynamics in rural Moroccan communities, particularly in light of Morocco’s recently proposed Moudawana (Family Code) reforms. Partnering with the High Atlas Foundation, the study evaluates the effectiveness of the foundation’s IMAGINE empowerment program and investigates best practices for post-psychosocial-workshop support. We will also engage with the Foundation’s efforts to support women in rural areas after the Marrakesh earthquake. Using a mixed-methods approach, this research will assess the impact of psychosocial interventions on women’s economic participation, family dynamics, and legal literacy, especially in regards to how the program might be tailored in the coming years to account for changes within the rural communities that High Atlas engages with. The project aims to provide a blueprint for NGOs working in similar contexts to both develop similar workshops and to improve outreach, sustainability, and program effectiveness.
