Abstract

This paper introduces the term "conscious nourishment" to explore the relevance and importance of empowering African American well-being through positive psychology-based approaches to nutrition and physical activity. It addresses the unique cultural, social, and historical factors contributing to this population's health challenges. This analysis emphasizes the importance of character strengths, self-efficacy, and socioeconomic determinants as key factors in enhancing an individual's well-being. This paper explores the practical application of positive psychology in African American health, building on existing evaluations and offering valuable insights for institutions, practitioners, and scholars. These insights can inform the development of comprehensive, culturally sensitive strategies designed to improve health outcomes and overall well-being among African Americans. Finally, I propose a holistic well-being framework called WHEALTHY.
