Abstract
Comparing Energy Expenditure, Body Composition, and Sleep Apnea in Infants with Micrognathia This is a secondary analysis study that will compare REE and fat percentage between control and micrognathia infants and the association of sleep apnea severity and REE. A group of control and micrognathia infants were seen for a visit at under 30 days and at 4-months. During these visits, anthropometric data was collected and a sleep study, REE, and DEXA scan were performed. After the data was collected, statistical analysis including Wilcoxon and Spearmen rank tests were performed. While there was a negative conclusion regarding the difference between the micrognathia and control groups, there was a difference between baseline and follow-up observed in both groups. There appears to be no significant association between OAHI and kilocalories per day. This study raised several future areas of study including adjusting for confounding variables including demographic factors and investigating correlations with other variables from the tests performed.
