Re-presenting the City: Arts, Culture, and Diversity in Philadelphia
A central theme of SIAP’s work since 1994 has been the critical way in which urban diversity and cultural engagement support one another. In a 1999 working paper, SIAP proposed diversity as a way to “re-present” the city—an alternative to the view of “city trenches” and entrenched segregation that long dominated urban policy—and as a framework for a vision of urbanism worthy of a new century.
