Abstract
Positive workplaces are crucial in our volatile, disruptive, uncertain, and complex world as we prioritize employee engagement, well-being, and performance in the future of work. One of the most critical factors of positive workplaces is the presence of positive energizing leaders. This is because leaders play such an essential role in the outcomes of employee well-being and the performance of their organizations. Positive Energizing Leadership is a construct that combines relational energy and virtuous behavior. This study develops and empirically examines a new measurement instrument, the Positive Energizing Leadership Scale (PELS). Study 1 proposes a mixed-method design where participants complete the PELS and define experiences when participants experience the life-giving energy of interacting with a Positively Energizing Leader. In study 2, a cross-cultural design will strengthen the validation of the scale. Exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and higher-order factor analysis will be performed. PELS scores will significantly correlate with employee well-being, performance, and engagement in the workplace. This study will show that the PELS is a valid measure for assessing positive energizers in the workplace, and future studies can include interventions, including leader vitality, that can identify the different factors that contribute to PEL.
