Abstract

what it means to fall apart is a music composition for soprano and string quartet that features the use of lights, video, and electronics. This works centers around the concept of "falling apart" and follows several objects and characters that are in various states of disrepair. It also features an emotional story arc told by corporate informercials that act as interludes. This emotional arc is then reinforced through the use of lights, video, and theatrics. Musically, this piece utilizes thorny textures, explosive noise, and complex timbral gestures. The work is divide into several movments:intro
