Abstract
The purpose of this capstone is to introduce a transformative Mental Fitness model rooted in positive psychology and aimed at elevating workplace performance and well-being. The model focuses on three dimensions: Positive Mind Setting, Positive Goal Setting, and Positive Connecting, strategically chosen because of their evidence-based ability to bolster individual well-being, improve key measures of organizational success, and encourage broad acceptance within diverse workforces. Additionally, the paper advocates for the wide acceptance of Positive Psychology Interventions (PPIs) among employees, positioning them as a business necessity rather than an optional resource. To do so, the paper first explores mental fitness through the lens of positive psychology research, highlighting the potential of PPIs to move beyond previous mental health stigmas and enhance individual well-being and crucial workplace outcomes. Next, the paper introduces the three dimensions of the Mental Fitness model and draws parallels to physical fitness, emphasizing PPIs as regular mental "workouts" essential for optimal performance and resilience. Finally, to support the immediate translation of science into actual “workouts,” each dimension of Mental Fitness explored also includes specific practices any reader can adopt to boost organizational performance and foster an environment of greater well-being and success.
