Abstract

Cover-to-cover video facsimile (recording of curator Dot Porter turning the pages) of Ms. Codex 1669, a collection of works primarily focused on spirits and their sigils that includes numerous tables, drawings, and diagrams of magical symbols and their properties. Also includes additional sections on making rings of invisibility (f. 40r) and for uncovering thefts (f. 44r). Four leaves, painted black, have been removed from the book and are housed separately, but are shown in their original place in this video. Written in France[?] in the second half of the 18th century.

Ms. Codex 1669 has not been digitized, but we are hoping to have it photographed summer 2026, so stay tuned. In the meantime you can read the full record in Find: https://find.library.upenn.edu/catalog/9962935133503681?hld_id=22298838160003681
