Abstract
It is known that TRPV1 channels play a role in thermosensation and thermoregulation. Literature also confirms that body temperature of mice and humans are tied to circadian rhythm, with body temperature rising to a peak a couple hours before sleep, and sleep onset occurring at the time of fastest body temperature decrease. We hypothesize that the absence of TRPV1 channels influences body temperature sensation and thus impairs sleep. Using EEG and EMG electrodes in TRPV1-DTA mice and control mice at a variety of temperatures, we analyzed sleep patterns at different temperatures in both mouse types. We observed that TRPV1-DTA mice likely experience warming induced sleep at warmer temperatures relative to wild-type mice, but more trials are required to confirm statistical significance.
