Abstract

Deliberation Empirica uses Empirica, a virtual lab platform for synchronous, interactive experiments, to build deliberation experiments where multiple human participants can discuss with each other in real time online. Designed to increase the scale and efficiency of deliberation experiments, Deliberation Empirica allows researchers to host and design experiments directly on its platform and specifies a strict formatting for experiment design files. In order to avoid costly mistakes in the formatting of these files, we have built lab tools that report formatting errors and facilitate intended experiment design. Our lab tool comes in the form of a Visual Studio Code extension that previews experiment files and validates their formatting and syntax, allowing documents to be proofread and verified before they are submitted to an experiment.
