Abstract
India is an agro-based economy. Agricultural policies are an important part of the government’s role in ensuring growth and sustainability in the country. This paper focuses on studying the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to draw evidence on whether a state’s agricultural policies are more effective than the other’s in terms of increasing agricultural production and productivity. In doing so, it aims to fill in the gap that exists in agricultural policy research in India by providing comparative information on different agricultural policies. Using a difference-in-differences approach on a state-crop level panel dataset spanning from 2010 to 2019, the paper finds that the agricultural policies adopted by the state of Andhra Pradesh are more effective than those adopted by the state of Telangana.
