dc.description.abstractThis paper presents results on the role of limited attention and inference in dialogue and the effect of discourse strategies that interact with these limitations. These factors are explored through a dialogue simulation environment, Design-World, in which two artificial agents collaborated to perform a simple design task. The results are based on several experiments carried out in this environment. These experimental results demonstrate that discourse strategies that incorporate redundant information can be beneficial when agents have limited resources for attention and inference.
