Abstract

Family compilation of medical remedies with many of the remedies dated, attributed to a person or a publication, and annotated. An alphabetical index at the beginning (p. ii-xiii) added to over time covers medical remedies throughout the volume, also added over time. The remedies are for ailments, conditions, and diseases including asthma, shortness of breath, cancer, coughs, corns, dropsy, headache, indigestion, leprosy, scurvy, toothache, and worms. A few culinary recipes (mostly p. 135-142) and household chemical formulas are present but mostly not included in the index. Frequent references to London, Bedford, and Bath. Two notes are laid in, one a copy of advertising text about cocoa paste and prepared chocolate powder, the other instructions for cold cream and lip salve, dated 1833.
