Abstract

Letter from the Editor May 12, 2025

Dear Readers,

This year, the Penn Journal of Philosophy, Politics & Economics received a number of commendable articles from scholars across disciplines at the University of Pennsylvania. True to the nature of the journal, the articles span a wide range of subjects from environmental justice to incarceration and artificial intelligence. Our intent as an editorial team was to select a number of articles that address some of the most pertinent issues of this moment from an interdisciplinary perspective. Ultimately, this edition of the Penn Journal of Philosophy, Politics & Economics reflects the sharp and diverse scholarship occurring across Penn’s campus and within the PPE department.

We would like to extend a special thanks to our Associate Director of PPE at Penn, Dr. Kate Dorsch and Marissa Tartaglia, Assistant Director of PPE for their continued support of the journal and unwavering dedication to the students of Penn’s PPE department. Our editorial team is also incredibly grateful for the support of the Penn PPE Undergraduate Advisory Board, particularly, Presidents Peyton Ronkin and Jake Maeng for their leadership and guidance this year. I would like to thank Luke Sheppard, PJPPE’s Executive Journal Assistant for his dedication and support this semester while working on this Spring 2025 edition and Niko Mamula, PJPPE Deputy Editor for his consistent enthusiasm for and commitment to the work we do.

Finally, thank you to all of the scholars who submitted their writing, your work represents some of Penn’s cutting edge student research.

Sincerely, Natalia Castillo Editor-in-Chief Penn Journal of Philosophy, Politics & Economics
