EBooks (SIMS)

This repository contains Ebooks, in the free and open EPUB format, for manuscripts in the Kislak Center for Special Collections, Rare Books and Manuscripts in the University of Pennsylvania Libraries. Each record contains a link to an EPUB, which you can download and read through an ebook reader. There are also links to the manuscript records in Penn in Hand, and to the digitized manuscript data (images and manuscript descriptions) in OPenn, Making Primary Digital Resources Available to Everyone.

Ebooks are published under a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported (CC BY 3.0)

These EPUB files have been optimized for iBooks on the iPad. You may have to increase or decrease font size for the pages to display correctly. If your ebook reader does not support the EPUB format, you can use the Calibre software program to turn these ebooks into the format of your choice.

To zoom on a page, double-click on the image. It will open the image, and you can zoom as usual. Please note that the images in the ebooks are not very high-resolution. In order to read text, you may need to open a higher-resolution image. To see a higher-resolution image of a page, first touch the image. This will take you to a page describing any illustrations or figure on that page, providing the page or folio number, and which also includes a link to a larger resolution image. You will need to have an Internet connection in order to view the larger resolution images, but the ebooks can be viewed without a connection.

EPUBs were generated by Dot Porter, using software and instructions posted on her Github.
